Further, these furnaces are also used in sintering processes.

When annealing coils of cold-rolled steel strips, single-stack and multi-stack bell furnaces are the most popular. Multi-stack bell furnaces have three to eight stacks installed on a rectangular pedestal beneath the heating dome, each of which has its own muffle to protect against the effects of hot air and combustion byproducts. Each stack is 3 to 5 metres high and consists of three to five coils that can weigh up to 180 tonnes altogether. Gas or electricity-powered resistance heaters are used to heat the dome. After the heating process is finished, the dome is moved by crane to a different stand, and the goods are left to cool beneath the muffles on the first stand.
